Our Sacramento foster care adoption attorney will assist you in completing the foster care adoption process as efficiently as possible so that you can enjoy the benefits of your loving, new family unit. What to Expect From the Foster Care Adoption Process

Becoming a foster or adoptive parent can be difficult, but with a clear understanding of the process you’ll need to go through, and the proper support of trained professionals that can guide you through that path, it may be simpler than you think.

In the U.S., the average time for a child to be in foster care is less than two years, and more than half of the children in foster care are adopted by their foster families. In addition to the satisfaction of making a positive difference in a child’s life, becoming a foster parent can come with a variety of benefits. Many foster programs provide financial and educational resources to support the child, and foster parents themselves can often receive financial aid to help them raise the child. Eligible foster parents can also adopt a child who is in their care without going through the sometimes long adoption process. Ready to get started? Once you decide to move forward with foster care adoption, you will then be required to:

  • Attend an “orientation” — This meeting is a way for you to gain a better understanding of what foster care is and to help you determine if the requirements of being a foster parent are something that you can manage. Topics discussed during orientation include the process of becoming a foster parent, the children who are part of the system, the tools that are available to support you, and the pay that you can expect as it is based upon the child’s family of origin category and placement of the child.
  • Complete an application and home study — If you decide that you want to be a foster parent, you will then complete an application with the goal of being accepted into the foster care program. The approval process can take as long as six months and will include the completion of a home study and background check to determine if you are eligible to adopt a foster child in the United States.
  • Receive your foster care license — Once you have been approved, you will be required to complete the training program that is meant to prepare you to parent a foster child so that you can become certified to receive a foster child.
  • Look for a match — Finally, once you are approved to receive a foster child, you can begin looking for your child.

Given the involvement of an array of agencies and professionals, the foster adoption process can at times feel a bit overwhelming. The Law Office of Tiffany L. Andrews, P.C. is here to help you! Working with our team ensures that you will never feel in over your head.

  • “This Office is Great!”
I met with Brenda and Karen and both were very professional and gave excellent customer service. They were clear, concise and answered all of my questions. I came out of that office feeling like I was on the right footing and knew I had a powerful group behind me if I need it. I would recommend everybody!

  • “Divorce & Separation Advice Session”
She was great, put my mind at ease. I had a few short questions, not enough to warrant a face-to-face with a lawyer at a high price and she took care of them. Precise, knowledgable and friendly too.

  • “Protected My Interests”
Tiffany has been dealing with my divorce for going on 3 years. Just wrapped up last week. Unfortunately, that's how long my divorce took. But she stuck by and fought for me even though the divorce laws are skewed to basically screw me. In the end, we were able to get a final judgment that I was comfortable with. She was always reachable and responded timely. All in all, she is a great lawyer who will do what's in your best interest.

  • “I feel blessed to have Ms. Andrews on my side, and I highly recommend her services!”

After the initial shock of being served divorce papers, I began interviewing attorneys to help me with the legal proceedings. The first couple of attorneys focused on how to address the support and division of property issues included in the papers I was served, without really asking me about my interests in this matter.

After meeting with Ms. Andrews, and ever since that initial interview and consultation, I always felt she had my best interests in mind. She immediately explained what I needed to file and when what to expect going forward and then asked me about my interests. Wow! She was exactly the kind of attorney I was looking for to represent me.

She was always responsive to my questions and requests, no matter how basic, and got back to me in a timely manner… at times outside normal work hours. But, the biggest and most pleasant surprise to me was when she began educating and guiding me through every step in order to achieve my interests and goals -– mainly, my number one priority and “my everything” in this whole process: to retain shared custody and visitation rights with my children. Her guidance and recommendations put me at ease and really helped put my children first.

Her knowledge, honesty, and dedication through numerous and unexpected court hearings involving custody and visitation issues not only resulted in the resolution of such issues in a competent and efficient manner but a resolution that Ms. Andrews knew I wanted.

Not only is Ms. Andrews reliable, helpful and an overall amazing attorney, her office staff is also very courteous, professional and efficient in keeping me apprised of what was needed and the status of the case. Thank you so much, Ms. Andrews… and staff!!
